Hungary once again—the small country in the heart of Europe seems to breed a lot of creative folk bands.
The CD “struggle for wisdom” by the young band CAWATANA is further proof of the fact that you can shake up today’s rather stagnant Apocalyptic Folk scene with simple means and brilliant ideas. This CD contains truly strong and rousing songs—and that means each one of them. CAWATANA intersperse their mainly English sung vocals with some Hungarian lines, thus giving their tracks a special flavour without being too enigmatic or exotic.
The most important instrument here is the acoustic guitar, creating a magical sound along with the drums and the perfectly arranged keyboards. True, “struggle for wisdom” would have been even more effective had the band used acoustic instruments only, but—this CD is just the beginning.
