So, The story continues...
Recorded between June 11th and June 18th, 2007 in the basement in Arlington,
MA on a tascam 388 8-track and 424 mkiii 4-track machine.
"In 2006, with much of the city distracted by post and neo-classic rock, a
recording was quietly released in Boston that would offer a different
interpretation of what both a band and an album could be. Mysteriously
entitled "Forgotten People Tread Water? it wasn't so much a record as it was
a series of musical moments, captured by two friends in the basement of an
old house in Arlington, MA. Filled with eerie pump organs, distorted acoustic
guitars and room-miked drums, it was as raw as it was unorthodox. Praised by
the few who were able to hear it, FPTW helped spread the word about a shadowy
duo making strange recordings just west of town.
One year, 30 shows and numerous converts later, Antiques has emerged as one
of the more curious success stories in the Boston music scene. And with their
new album, "Floodlight" they have secured their status as a band to watch in
2007. Recorded in five days in the same basement studio as its predecessor,
Floodlight is a celebration of the "good songs/bad gear/just keep going?
ethos that has come to define this strange outfit. More Nirvana than Tom
Waits, it is a trainwreck of a recording. Combining everything from speed
metal to civil war ballads, Floodlight continues the Antiques tradition of
breaking new ground while staying true to their humble beginnings.
Unfortunately, in a world that seems to value loud, slick rock records, an
album recorded clumsily on an old 8-track has little chance of making an
impact. But that's still a chance."
